Application process
How to apply through Søknadsweb
Step by step: creating your account, choosing courses and uploading documents in Søknadsweb.
Most Norwegian universities use Søknadsweb for international master's applications, including UiO, NTNU, UiB, UiT and UiS. Each university has its own Søknadsweb page, which you find through the university's admission pages.
Before you start
- Check the deadline for your applicant group. For citizens outside the EU/EEA it is usually 1 December (UiT: 15 November).
- Check how many courses you can apply for. UiO allows two, while UiB and UiS allow one only.
- Scan your documents as PDF files. Most universities require all documents to be uploaded by the deadline.
Step by step
- Register as an international applicant. Use the same email address every time. Register your name exactly as it is written in your passport.
- Use one account only. UiO and UiS delete all applications from applicants who create more than one user.
- Answer the questions about your citizenship, English and finances.
- Choose your course(s) and, if allowed, put them in order of priority.
- Upload your documents: diplomas, transcripts, English test, passport and anything your course asks for (CV, motivation letter, course descriptions).
- Check everything before the deadline. At NTNU you can change your application as many times as you like until the deadline, and there is no separate "submit" button: what is uploaded by the deadline counts.
After the deadline
- You can no longer add or change courses.
- Some countries' transcripts must also be sent directly by your university. See our country rules.
- Results usually come between February and May, depending on the university.
- If you get an offer, accept it by the deadline in the offer letter, then start your study permit application.
